Hi everyone!
I'm new to microscopes but i understand the basics and i'm trying to get my brand new scope to work. It's a trinocular except i can't see anything through the third port... unscrewing the tube and looking in i can't even see any light or any mirrors or anything to suggest that light could be going up the port. Plus, the views through the binocular ports don't seem to be lining up. I've adjusted the interpupillary distance to the closest, most comfortable position, but each view cuts eachother in half do i'm annoyingly seeing double of everything and it's impossible to see anything clearly without closing one eye. I'll attach pictures.. i'm a newb so am i missing something obvious? or is my scope faulty? thanks! |

I'm not quite sure, but I think what you are calling the "third port" may be the photo tube. If that is correct, I think I see a knob on the right side of the head (if that is the correct term) of the microscope. I'm going to guess that if you pull that out, you will be able to see.
As far as your adjustment of the interpupillary width is concerned, you said you adjusted it for comfort, then you were getting double images. Have you tried adjusting it so the two images become superimposed into a single image?

Thanks for the help karlssoni, Yes the third port is the photo tube, and that little black knob doesn't really seem to do anything... it screws in and out, but in or out i still can't see anything, i even tried looking down through the eyepiece (which i tested on one of the binocular part so i know it works) AS i unscrewed it and nothing changed.
But your comment made me think it must be something that holds a part in place, and if i loosen it i should be able to adjust something... but i took it out and have been pushing and pulling every little bit and nothing budges. The thing that bugs me is i just can't see how an image is supposed to come up through that hole? there's no mirror and that black box you can see down in there (with the screws on it) doesn't budge. And with the binocular parts just don't seem to line up into one picture... they only overlap slightly at the very closest point i can get them and it's virtually impossible to use both eyepieces at the same time without going cross-eyed and getting a headache. I presume from your comment that they should line up and it's not just me? thanks for your help, any more ideas? i'll contact the distributor. |

Good morning,
The knob on the side of the body is attached to a sliding prism that is designed to be move into or out of the light path to direct the light to the triocular port. Unscrewing it will not solve the problem as it is only a device to push and pull the prism. More than likely the prism is damaged. Your best solution is to contact the seller and discuss any warranty protection. Good luck with your efforts, g2b2

thanks g2b2!
With your help i figured it out - and the prism is moving backwards and forwards well now, all fixed... I managed to get some video chasing around a red spider mite on a glass slide (and then recorded what happens when it runs into a drop of 2% H202 - mwahahaha) very happy with the camera port now that i got it working.thanks again |

I thought the 'mite chase' was a good exercise for you and the mite. As far as the H2O2, that's just evil
