Question Noob Q: What's a better eyepiece/objective combo? 25x*40x, 20x*50x or 10x*100x?

I'm on the market for 1000x magnification and was wondering if there is a difference in quality between the different options of eyepiece/objective combo.

20x+50x vs 25x+40x vs 10x+100x
(eyepiece+objective)

Will I see much of a quality difference between these options?

If not, I'm thinking of going for the smaller objective, given that it provides more work space.

TIA!

Hi Raz,

You don't mention resolution in your question. It has been considered best to keep magnification to no more than 1,000x the objectives numerical aperture (NA), greater magnification than this shows no more detail just looks fuzzy. The objective you need would be oil immersion NA 1+, you could use a high dry objective NA 0.9-0.95 but these are more difficult to use and often require the coverslip to be exactly the correct thickness.

Good luck, and think quality!

Peter.
