Default microscope for paint cross section

Hello, My name is Ben.
I would like to know what microscope would be suited for inspection of cross section of painted metal pieces.
Paint films are between 30 and 300 micons thick. what enlargement would i need to determine the thickness of the paint layer?
If possible I would also like to make pictures with it.

Besides this I don't know how to prepare a sample. I know they use resin to do this but that's all.... How do they do that?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Regards Ben
