Default Metallurgical microscope for general hobby use

Hi, I am curious to know if I would be able to use a metallurgical microscope for general hobby use. I like the idea of having illumination from above and/or below, and the ability to get a low-power look at an insect, but I also want to be able to look at cellular-level stuff like blood cells.

Here is the model I'm asking about: Unitron Series MS Metallurgical Microscopes

I'm new to microscopy and don't want to screw the pooch on my first purchase. Any advice and/or recommendations is greatly appreciated!

Bill
