Default Help me identify my microscope :D

Hi,

I bought this microscope from a guy off of Craigslist and am interested
in learning more about it. I'm a noob at microscopy and my Internet
searches haven't yielded much. It says "Standard" and "No. 122447" on
it. Other than that and the service label (from a local place in 1981),
I can't see any markings or anything on it. The 4 lenses are 4x, 10x,
40x, and 100x. I think the eyepiece lenses are 10x, but am not sure.
The microscope came with a Japanese made (stamped "JAPAN" on the bottom)
wooden box with a handle on top and a lock and key. Does anyone know
anything about this or if you think I got a good deal? I paid $100 for
it. Hopefully I made a good buy

Thanks for y'alls help. Here's a pic of it.
Cody

Hi askantik,

I can not help you identify your microscope but as far as value for money goes you should get $100 worth of enjoyment from it.
Do you have emersion oil for the 100x objective?
What sort of things are you going to study?
Perhaps if you were to go to the place that serviced it they may know more about it.

Good luck, good viewing, and let us know how you are getting on.

Peter.

Hi Cody,

The Standard brand and several other catalog brands used this model microscope from the Kyowa factory in Japan. I believe your scope probably dates from somewhere in the 1970s. These were popular instruments that saw service in veterinary and medical clinics. Since the scopes were marketed by catalog companies there were not a lot of accessories. From your photo I would say that you have a basic configuration of achromat objectives with a pair of 10X / 18 mm eyepieces. If all the glass is in good condition and the lubricants are still good you should get some years of good use from it. If the last service was in the 1980's it may be in need of some attention.
