Default Starter meteorite study microscopes

My hobby is hunting, cutting, and studying meteorites, and it has grown to where I need 2 scopes: 1 for whole specimens and slices, and 1 for thin sections. With a limited budget, I have started my search for them but find the myriad models too confusing to make an informed decision.

Please, if you have had experience with meteorite/petrographic study and micrography and have used or know of bi- or trinocular scopes that you would recommend, could you give me a name & model of one/some?

I would be happy to have a professional clean, adjust, and restore an older quality scope if one is available anywhere at a fair price.

I am so pleased to find there is a forum where microscopists share information with their peers and the newbies (nee, me ) who are just beginning to "see" what others have known for so long. Thank you for any suggestions you may have about my microscope needs.

Default Starter scope

Perhaps, so I have asked for more information about it. Thank you for the heads up!

Not much additional information available from seller, so I will look in another direction. What I want is an inexpensive stereo or trinocular scope with a rotating nosepiece holding 3 objective lenses.

Hi Paul,
I have a variety of good used microscopes that will work for simple polarization. You can contact me privately at gw2brown@earthlink.net

Thank you. Wish I had seen your post earlier today! I made a choice and will have to live with it, and I think I can. I should be happy until I need to do more advanced work. I will check in with you when that happens.

Lomo MBC-10 (aka sf-100T). Comes with everything I need (read: want) except a digital feed, an X-POL, and a decent camera. A friend has given me instructions for building my own X-POL, and I can make do with a 5mp Canon SD 50 camera if I can fix its lens cover. The digital feed may have to wait unless someone knows a way to rig for that. The lenses are not exceptional but then neither is my eyesight so I probably could not tell much difference between good and average lenses. Lenses can be bought, but I have used up my fun budget for months!
