I am planning on purchasing a microscope as a gift with a max. budget of $550. The person I am buying it for has a good knowledge of microscopes however I myself do not.

I have stumbled upon a few sites that sell affordable microscopes, however I have no clue whether these scopes are reliable.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand in picking out the best microscope available for the amount I am willing to spend. I am looking for something powerful and durable.
