Smile Hello from Canada

Hello all. I am an amateur astronomer from Canada and have recently taken an interest in all things small as well. I will be getting a microscope of some sort soon and it will be my first microscope since high school many years ago so I will have lots of questions to ask. Looking forward to reading all the knowledgable posts here and getting to know lots of new people.

Welcome Grava. Are you seeing any good northern lights in the last couple days? I've been meaning to look, but can't manage to wake up in the middle of the night to go outside.

Hello Mitch,
I have not seen any Northern Lights unfortunately. That's part of the reason why I'd like to learn a little about microscopy, we hardly ever get any clear nights to view the sky here in Quebec. When it is clear this time of year it's -30〫C. I need a cloudy day hobby as well.

I took up microscopy for the same reason. Not enough sunny days here to shoot birds, which was my passion.

Welcome Grava ...

I have never done astronomy but I bet there would be too much light pollution out here in Vegas unless one gets out on the other side of the mountain. The sky's are clear though .. the majority of the time.

Syd ...

Hi Syd,
When I can't beat the light pollution I study the moon, planets or double stars. Those objects are not affected by light pollution as much. Besides, the moon is one of the biggest light polluters in the sky...after the sun of course. Check out the Moon and Venus at sunset tomorrow night for a nice pairing in the sky.

It was a nice pairing to be sure. The sky was so clear, Jupiter was brightly visible well before dark (I almost busted out my telescope).
