Hi,
I have a newbie question: Considering all other features equal, if I have to choose between: 1> a binocular microscope with JIS standard objectives/eyepieces [Refer to the second image] 2> a binocular microscope that costs 15% extra [approx $50] with DIN standard objectives/eyepieces [Refer to the first image] What choice is better? Please let me know with reasons. Many Thanks, Lilliput. |

Objectives: DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) are 45mm standard. and JIS (Japan Industrial Standards) are 36mm standard objectives.
DIN are more common than JIS DIN vs JIS really isn't that important as long as you're not intending on mixing and matching objectives. What you want to pay attention to is the type of objective, (Plan, Semiplan, Achromat, etc) which controls the flatness and the quality of the brand who makes the objective. Companies like Nikon have a much higher quality control system set up to put out optically superior objectives. You don't get high quality optics from knock off Chinese microscopes. |

I would suggest you get the DIN.... Microscope Consultant is right, it is much common. this way, you won't have a hard time looking for parts. :P
