Smile Best microscope for viewing human blood cells

Hello,

I am needing a little advice on buying the best microscope for viewing human blood cells. I have about $1400 to spend. With the help of a hemacytometer and a microscope, I am interested in doing a manual blood cell count.

In addition, if there happens to be anyone familure with manual blood cell counts, and you have any advice, please let me know.

Thanks to everybody for their help.

Jerry

I was able to buy a Leitz Ortholux in decent shape for $330 on eBay. I think you get more bang for your buck by shopping carefully for old, top quality equipment instead of new junk.

It's been over 40 years since I did a blood count, but it seems that you're on the right track with the hemocytometer. If you are interested in preparing stained smears, that's pretty easy, too.
