Lightbulb Pond scum timelapse

This is not exactly a microscope video, but is still something closely related.

You have probably seen green algae moving under the microscope - there you can see just one or two strands sliding forward and backward, seemingly at random. This timelapse video shows the cumulative effect of those movements.

In the video a flask with pond water is shaken so the dirt and algae get all mixed up in a muddy "soup". The flask is then left alone for an hour or so, during which time pictures are taken every 10 seconds. The end result is a timelapse video showing what the algae are actually trying to achieve - getting themselves as close to the light and nutrients as possible, while still remaining attached to something:
