WOW, Charlie, you are perceptive!!! Try to think of a Hawaiian ceremonial mask as this spider lives on the beautiful island of Kuaui, Hawaii. g2b2

That is what I would call a "haphazard web"!

I have a Land Rover with wiring that looks like that web. I've always said it looks like it was wired by a spider on LSD.

Hi John,

My understanding is that a spider on LSD builds a meticulous precision web, it's a spider on caffeine which builds a haphazard web. However I could be wrong.
I know one drug (not caffeine) causes the spider to build a web which traps itself.

Peter.

I also have a Land Rover with pretty neat wiring, so I guess it could go either way.

Default regarding this hawian spider

Hi, all, I know it's just a suggestion..but all that subtle 3-D dimensionality to this spiders lair ( ghastly recall to highschool geometry of polygons grips me!)...it would bring out the webs dimensions if a fine water-mister spray bottle was gently applied just before imageing this hunter.

For me indeed I see dimensionality to the individual polygons of web...but all in different planes of orientation...it really is habit of highschool geometry to see many similar polygons in this lair of the hawian spider...I love it! It could be an image in a chapter of a school text!

Aloha, charlie guevara, fingerlakes/US

It looks like we might be needing a little high school solid geometry to deal with this structure. I'm not sure the spider would be thrilled about being misted. If that approach doesn't work, you might experiment with some degree of back lighting.
