Spring '09 is welcome here. Now that snow melt nearly over..on weekend hikes, collect the gravel from a vernal stream bed.
Simple specimen of small container full, fits in a pocket on the hike. At home...small amount of water added, and you have microscopy adventures for weeks. Good to sample from some natural open lands far from home. Less fun from your neighbors backyard(joke, joke!)! When you collect, think:'micro-habitat', collect a few different substrates...and very small amounts , with a little water that sample gives observations for weeks. charlie guevara NJ,US |

Happy spring time/ happy Easter '09, on a 4/12/09 highlands hike, vernal pools, vernal stream beneath the leaf litter, highland bog was sampled. Last of the highlands NJ/NY border ice melt casscaded down the steep foothills we hiked and 'protist twitched' for microscope bench samples. Images will post here in macro-galleries and in 'light microscopy galleries'. charlie guevara NJ,US
